Seagrass Monitoring

WADDI implements a seagrass monitoring program (SMP) over the summer months at Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, Western Australia. The SMP aims to establish benchmark values of seagrass health indicators for Key Ecological Attributes of seagrass meadows located within the Rottnest Island Marine Reserve.

These benchmarks will be used to compare data collected in subsequent monitoring years to assess change in seagrass health over time. Seagrass shoot density and leaf area index are indicators of seagrass health. These metrics have been measured annually and will be used to calculate benchmarks.
